Marianne's Response

Rhododendron name

Hi Marianne, do you know what rhododendron this is? Low growing, in my neighbors planter. Thank you!

Marianne's Response

This pink blooming rhodie looks like a type called a "Yak" and this particular variety could be 'Mist Maiden' or 'Caroline'. The Yak rhodies are naturally dwarf with a furry substance on the back of the leaves that help them to resist root weevils. There are many varieties of Yak rhododendrons and spring is a great time of year to visit local nurseries so you can see what the blooms look like before you buy one of these nicely compact rhododendrons. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
