Marianne's Response
That depends on what type of peony (tree peonies are more tender) and what zone map you are using. Zone 10 from the USDA or Zone 10 from the Sunset Western Garden book? Herbaceous Peonies will thrive in the coldest parts of Alaska and also the hottest parts of Nevada so they are pretty tough perennials. The quality of the soil, wind protection and moisture will determine the survival rate. Perhaps your local nursery will know more about which peonies will thrive in your particular area. All types of peonies do best when planted or transplanted in the fall. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
