Yes, iris will survive but it needs full sun and good drainage so use a pot with big drainage holes and a potting soil with added sand and perlite to make it light and quick draining. I assume you mean to grow the most common bearded iris. There are also small dwarf iris reticulata that can be planted in pots in the fall for early spring bloom. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
