Roses
Hello Marianne,
Our daughters went to school together in Enumclaw (Corrine Lee). We moved to Tacoma the end of June and there was a rose bush here that has bloomed all summer. Beautiful red and yellow. It’s still blooming so I have not cut it back. Now that we’ve had some frozen nights, is this bad? Or could I let it continue until the flowers stop…..?

Wonderful to know you are out there gardening in Tacoma. Your hardy rose sounds like it could be 'Joseph's coat' but don't worry about pruning it. As long as it is flowering you can enjoy it. In early spring such as late February or early March you can shorten the entire plant by about one third and take out any dead wood. This will stimulate new growth and if you remember to use a slow release plant food like Osmocote in May, then I can promise you a beautiful rose again next year. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
