Roses can be pest free if you pick the right varieties and grow in the right conditions. They need sun, good air circulation, good soil that drains freely and fertilizer. The Flower Carpet roses are a disease resistant variety that comesin many colors and are considered the easiest to grow roses. Osmocote is a great plant food for roses and should be used every Spring along with a mulch around the roots to seal in moisture. To get rid of "rose bugs" and mites I am going to guess you mean aphid - soft bodied, small green insects mostly found on the tips of new growth and buds. A strong jet of water and pinching the aphid to kill them will encourage ladybugs and other beneficial insects to arrive. Mites may be a sign your roses need more water. Perhaps if you sent a picture of your insect problems I could be of more help. Don't be afraid to get rid of any plant that is full of pests and does not perform well.
