How do you fertilize rose bushes and when?

Marianne's Response

Roses are hungry plants and love to be fed. I use Osmocote around the base of each rose plant in early spring when I see the forsythia in bloom or when you see signs of new growth on your rose plants. Then after the first flush of rose blooms in June I fertilize again using a liquid plant food such as Miracle Grow. A layer of compost around the roots in early summer will help conserve water and improve the soil. Do not fertilize roses in the fall as they need to slip into dormancy before winter arrives. I see a rosy future in your garden. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
