Do bell peppers need a host plant?

I planted several bell pepper plants and they have a plant growing beside them that is growing at the same height. Is the plant a host/male plant that has to continue to grow with them, or can i just pull it as a weed? This is my first garden, and the bell pepper plants are above ground. Also, do the bell pepper plants spread at all? Thank you so much.

It is safe to pull up the nearby plant, as peppers do not need a host plant or partner and probably resent the shade being caused by the neighboring plant. The pepper plants do not spread and you only need one to get peppers. Good luck and congratulations on your first garden. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
