Marianne's Response

Why won’t my hydrangeas bloom?

Why won’t my “Endless Summer” hydrangeas bloom? The one-year-old plant is in shade until 3–4 p.m. and the four-year-old plant is in full sun until 4 p.m.

Thank you for your time,
Ruth in Rochester

Marianne's Response

Do you live in Rochester NY? My guess is the cold winters up north freeze the buds of your hydrangeas. Try pruning some branches in March to stimulate new growth in early summer that will flower in late summer to avoid the spring freezing weather. A mild spring and winter would also help. Let us all know if this works. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
