Salvia insects small holes in many leaves?

My salvia that has been planted in the same two locations for over ten years has small holes in many leaves? It is near my rose garden. The roses show no signs of aphids. What insect may be eating thi salvia? And what do you recommend that I treat it with ?

The holes in the leaves looks like they are from snails or a caterpillar of some type. Try going out at night with a flashlight and picking off the guilty subject. You can also poke around the soil to see if you find the enemy. Aphid do not do this type of damage. Another idea is to set a trap by laying a bit of damp rolled up newspaper near the plant. Slugs and snails will crawl into this at night and you can dispose of them. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
