sbryant’s Question

At your recent Landscaping Workshop in Tacoma, you suggested my husband and I plant “Rainbow bushes” for our problem area (mostly shade but lots of late afternoon sun off the water). We love this idea but can’t find “Rainbow bushes”. Please give me more names for Rainbow bush. Thanks! Loved your workshop.

Marianne's Response

What good listeners you are. The rainbow bush is the common name for a great evergreen shrub called Leucothoe and the drooping Leucothoe fontansesiana is the subgroup that grows best in the NW. Local nurseries stock this shrub in several forms, some more compact for smaller spaces. Both Watsons and Windmill are nurseries in your area that carry this shade tolerant shrub. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
