Speaking broadly, mother earth often has many of the minor / trace elements already in the soil. Because only microscopic quantities are needed, such nutrients endure for long periods. Osmocote Outdoor & Indoor, on the other hand, is intended primarily for container plants where the potting soil is lacking in nutrients altogether.
