Marianne's Response
shandy-question
Is it too early to prune and fertilize my roses? They are showing so much growth already but I’m afraid of late freezing.

Marianne's Response
It depends on where you live. I suggest you wait until you see forsythia in bloom and crocus in flower. I pruned my roses this week (I live near Seattle, zone 5) but I know I took a gamble. Pruning stimulates new growth and if we get a bad freeze in March I will lose all this growth - but that is okay as I can just prune off the frozen tops and let the roses start again. If you hate the idea of this extra work, wait another 3 weeks to prune back your roses.
Keep growing,
Marianne Binetti
