In my garden a sprinkle of red pepper flakes on top of the area where they like to dig - such as where I plant my bulbs, will keep the squirrels away but I have heard that the pepper treatment does not work for every critter. Using hardware cloth or chicken wire on top of the soil will also stop them from digging and your plants can grow up through the wire openings. Good luck! Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
