How to prevent container plants from rotting due to too much rain
Hello. I live in Delaware and we have been getting a lot of rain for the past few days. I have two huge planters sitting on my deck which have collected a lot of rain water. How do I drain the rain water, the planters are so heavy that I can not tilt them. I guess my question would be is the rain water going to hurt the plants? The planter has a mix of annual flowers. Thanks

Heavy rains can rot potted plants that do not have good drainage or light potting soil. Try to slide tiles or bottle caps under the pots to allow drainage water to escape from holes on the bottom of the container. Poke holes into the potting soil to help it drain. Add perlite to the soil to keep it lighter the next time you pot up plants and you can also place stakes in the containers and drape plastic over them to keep more rain from drowning the plants.
