Shrubs/trees to screen unwanted view.

Hi Marianne-

Can you recommend some deer-resistant shrubs/trees to plant along the far side of my driveway to screen this unwanted view? The area that needs screening is about 15 feet long and 8 feet wide.

Thank you,

First, thanks for sending the image, your landscape looks lovely. When it comes to deer resistant shrubs the yew is the most often used evergreen for screening as there are many forms of yew and this shade tolerant evergreen can grow to 15 feet tall and half as wide. The narrow growing yews that look like green columns may be your best bet as they will need little pruning to keep them tidy. This disadvantage is that yews are not known for their fast growth so you may want to use a temporary screen or bamboo fencing as you wait a few years for your newly planted yews to fill in the space. A large nursery will be able to help you place an order for the number and specific type of yew shrubs to order that would do best in your climate. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
