Suggestions for a continuously blooming garden in Zone 7

What and how do I plant areas in layers, for continuous flowering from early spring to first frost or beyond? (USDA zone 7: NC-TN-GA tri-state area, full sun, average well-drained soil, perennials only, no dead-heading required, low maintenance easy-care plants). The first plants would be my daffodils (various cultivars, averaging 18″, flowering early thru mid-spring, foliage until early summer/June).

After the spring daffodils enjoy the smaller bulbs of anemone or wind flowers at the front of the bed and than shrub roses like the new 'Sweet Spot\" rose that is self cleaning and does not need spraying. Hardy crane's bill geranium are also pretty carefree for early summer bloom, and then sedum 'Autumn Joy' and the tall Japanese anemone for fall flowers. If you don't want to dead head or remove spent blossoms, go for foliage plants like lamiums, Japanese Forest Grass, and striped Zebra grass. Also notice what is doing well in your neighbor's garden or what the local highway has growing alongside the median strips. This will give you ideas about other low-upkeep plants for your garden.
