Marianne's Response
snor107’s Question
I have two 12 year old Catalpa trees about 30 feet apart. One is vigorous and one has become weak in the last 4 or 5 years. We’d like the vigor to return as we loved the shade under both trees. We need your good advice or a referral.
Here are the details. The weak tree’s leaves are 1/3 the size of the strong tree. Growth on the weak tree is maybe 4 inches per year versus one to three feet on the strong tree. Leaf color is also lighter.
We found carpenter bees in the weak tree a couple weeks ago.
There is a deck about two feet off the ground over 1/3 of the weak tree’s root area. There is plenty of air under there and I added sprinkler heads a couple years ago to promote growth. I also fertilize under there.
I hope you have some ideas or the name of someone who may have expertise on this kind of tree.
I tried to send a picture. Didn’t work on several tries.
