Sounds like a fun project and you have all winter to dream and scheme. One idea is to do a color theme with a plant such as the  Nandina 'Seinna Sunrise' a peachy bronze heavenly bamboo as the feature plant and then a low growing ground cover plant such as the evergreen bear berry or kinninickick as the color of this groundcover has a bit of a bronze cast with peach tinted spring blossoms. Add some daffodils with peach centers and in the summer use coral geraniums or peachy pink petunias. The Nandina also comes in a purple shade  (Plum Passion) and a red version  (Firepower) so you could go in a different direction with your color scheme with a different variety of Nandina. For a more traditional look use a classic evergreen such as Dwarf Alberta Spruce or even boxwood kept neatly clipped so you can fill in with spring bulbs and summer annuls.
