First you can relax in the knowledge that most spiders are harmless to humans and spiders do not harm plants. I suspect that a few spider egg sacs have hatched in your flower bed and with spring here they are just out and about looking for shelter. One way to remove many of them quickly is to spread a thin layer of leaf mold or other thin mulch in just a one foot square area. After a sunny day will find that many of the spiders have taken refuge under the cool mulch. Then use a shovel and take up some soil and the mulch and transfer the spiders to a new area in your garden. Spiders not only attract birds and other pollinators but humming birds need spiders webs to build their tiny hanging moss nests. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
