Marianne's Response

Squash problem

My squash plant was looking great and then all of a sudden I noticed some leaves turning yellow. Some of them underneath look dead. The yellow ones are limp and not as sturdy as the green leaves. Is this due to not enough water or bacterial wilt or something else? Thank you in advance.

Wilting plants could be suffering due to lack of water or a bacterial wilt. Poke your finger into the soil. If it is moist down one inch then the plants do not need more water. That would be bad news as then the problem is most likely a bacterial or viral infection which is much harder to treat. Do you have voles or moles? Sometimes a wilt like this will be caused by burrowing rodents. Time will tell if your plants need water or uprooting and a fresh start with new plants. In two weeks they will either improve or be near death. You will still have time to replant.  Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
