Sparse rhubarb

I have a rhubarb crop that has remained somewhat sparse. There are multiple small sections of 4-5 stalks. How do I get the sections to grow larger?

Sounds like your rhubarb needs to be divided and then pampered with a good dose of manure and fertilizer. Add a thick mulch of composted manure to the soil around the plants now. This will help the soil to stay cool and moist over the summer. Then, in the spring, you can divide the clump into smaller sections and replant each new start into soil that has been improved with compost and manure. Spring is also the time to fertilize with a slow-release plant food like Osmocote. I expect you'll be making lots of rhubarb pies soon after. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
