I had a small window of time to plant bulbs and did it early September. About half of them have sprouted and I am wondering if that will keep them from coming back next year.

No worries, sometimes bulbs just pop up early to take a peek around then realize the nights are getting longer and go back to sleep. They'll still show up all dressed in their best for the big spring dance.
