Marianne's Response
Sungron-question
Hi, Marianne’
I’m told that iris should be shallowly planted, but I think I overdid it and planted them too superficially this year. I want to give them another shot next year, but need to know just how deep to plant them. Thanks.

Bearded iris, the type with the huge blooms and knuckle-like roots should be just sitting on top of the soil with maybe half an inch of soil covering the roots. They also need lots of sun and good drainage and seem to bloom best in a soil that is almost gravel. You should also dig and divide iris roots at least every other year for maximum blooms. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
