Marianne's Response

Sungron-question

Hi, Marianne-
I’m getting my peas in the ground and want to try bush beans. Should these be planted at the same time as peas or shall I wait for warmer weather? Thanks.

Marianne's Response

Do not plant bush beans now! Peas are okay as they are cool season crops (soak the pea seeds overnight before you plant) but beans need warm soil or they will rot. Plant beans after all frost is passed, usually in May or even June depending on where you live. You can add manure and compost to the spot where you plan to plant your beans and work it into the soil. Then your bean patch will be already for planting later in the spring.
