Marianne's Response
Sungron-question
My forsythia is about 15 years old and hasn’t blossomed much for the past couple of years. I haven’t done much more than cursory trims and am starting to suspect that, like an old lilac, it needs serious whacking back. Am I close to being right?

Marianne's Response
Yes - now is the time of year for an extreme makeover. Cut your lazy forsythia back to three feet tall and see if that doesn't jump start some vigorous young growth. If instead the forsythia dies from the shock well than what have you lost? Life's too short to put up with ugly plants. Remember your plants are not like your children. You do not have to love them forever. Perhaps you'll replace your forsythia with an early blooming quince or viburnum. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
