Marianne's Response

Sungron’s Question

I understand that irises will not bloom if the rhizomes are buried too deeply. I separated some a couple of years ago and planted them so that some of the bulb is visible above the ground. I get beautiful foliage but no blooms. Help!

Marianne's Response

How much sun do the iris get? Many bulbs will grow great foliage but without full sun no blooms. Summer is a good time of year to fertilize your iris as bulbs respond best to plant food right after their blooming season. You may also need to divide the iris corms so that the young side corms take over and you can toss out the older inner core of the iris bulbs. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
