Marianne's Response
Sungron’s Question
We have a fig tree that usually provides us with as much or more than we can use. Unfortunately, it’s 15 years old and several of the branches are too high to pick from. Needless to say, we can’t get a ladder through the other branches. I plan to lop off the high upright branches. Will this have an adverse effect on the tree?

Marianne's Response
Go ahead and chop off it's head! Fig trees respond well to pruning - but wait until spring! You do not want to prune a fig tree in fall or winter. You can even cut a fig to the ground and get fruit the same summer. So don't be shy, get snippy with your fig tree in mid spring - when you see the Robins return. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
