Vinca minor

I am resubmitting my earlier question regarding the identification of a great-sounding ground cover or low spreading plant from Australia, that you wrote about in the Kent Reporter last year. It was a shade-lover that tolerated foot traffic. I don’t remember much else about it, but it sounded like it would be perfect for a shady, tree-filled section of my back yard. Oh…and it did have blossoms on it. You said you would try to locate your article when you returned from out of town. Thanks in advance for any help you can give me!

Thank you for your patience. It sounds like vinca minor is the groundcover that would do best in your shaded area. It spreads out and is tolerant of deep shade, some sun and is evergreen and tolerates some foot traffic. It blooms white, blue or purple. The hardy oxalis can be invasive but has lime green leaves and white flowers and fills in space under trees. Another blooming groundcover for the shade is lamium and it comes in several forms but lamium 'Beacon Silver' is the most popular. I think the vinca minor is the one from Australia is drought tolerant. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
