Marianne's Response

Symbiotic or competitive

I have a crape myrtle growing up through my azalea. It cannot be separated, must have started as a seed, so the roots are all intertwined. Can I grow that crape myrtle through the azalea with the plan to trim the lower branches and allow the azalea to grow beneath it? Symbiotic or competitive? Thanks!

I think it would work so why not give it a try? Crepe myrtle do not use much water nor need fertilizer - so they would not be hogging all the food and water from the azalea. Let us know how it goes next year. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
