Marianne's Response

Daffodil bulbs have leaves, but no flowers

Why did I have daffodil bulbs come up with healthy looking leaves and no flowers? Some in pots and others in ground? Many pots came back perfectly.

Bulbs need to be kept dry in the summer and also for their foliage to be allowed to ripen and turn yellow after the flowers fade. If you removed the daffodil foliage too soon or if the bulbs were watered in the summer they may not bloom the following year. If this is the first year you planted the bulbs than the size of the bulb could be to blame. Daffodil bulbs need to be of a certain size before they can make a bloom. Small bulbs will sent up foliage but not blooms. Allow the greens to ripen and the bulbs to dry in the summer and they may grow large enough to bloom next year. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
