Tomato plants in containers

First time for me planting this way.. I bought my plants at Watsons Nursery and Sterino Farms.. They are doing quite well. nice green foliage lots of blooms and now seeing fruit.. When I bought the containers and soil at Home Depot, I asked the sales person if the soil was ok for vegetables.. It is a soil with Miracle Grow in it.. I am now wondering of how much knowledge this sales person had.. Is this ok and is it ok to eat the tomato after using this ? Also my brother gave me some granular fertilizer , of which I have not used yet and wondering if I should or not. Please advise.. Thanks my email is ct925@msn.com

No worries. Miracle Grow is a fertilizer and fertilizers are perfectly safe to use on edible plants. You must be thinking about pesticides that kill pests that you should be careful about using on edible plants. Vegetables need fertilizer and organic farmers use plant food from an organic source but most farmers and home gardeners are more successful using plant food or fertilizer that is more easily available to the plant and more complete from a packaged fertilizer either one you add to water or soil such as Miracle Grow or a slow release plant food such as Osmocote in pellets or in granular form. Enjoy your home grown, healthy produce this summer and remember to fertilize with no worries. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
