Topaz-question
There is a plant growing the in raised bed at our rental cabin in Oregon. I don’t know what it is? It has thorns in the stems, is growing like a shrubs with long branches rather than a vine, has 3-fingered maple shaped leaves, and the deers love eating it. My husband thinks it’s some kind of wild berry but it’s not anything I know. Not wild, evergreen, or hymalaya blackerry; not thimble, salmon, or black cap berry. What might it be and should I pll it out?

I just came in from the garden and noticed the deer had eaten the leaves of the native salmon berry in my garden. I think the plant you are describing is indeed thimble berry a native to the Pacific Northwest woods that the deer love. Leave the plant if you like the deer to visit. It is not invasive and rather pretty when it flowers in the spring.
