Caring for potted blueberry plants

I have a couple of blueberry plants in pots on my deck. How and when should I prune them? What kind of fertilizer should I use and when? Thank you

Marianne's Response

Blueberry plants love lots of water, an acidic plant food and very little pruning. Remove any branches that are dead, diseased or damaged any time of year. In early spring tidy up the shrubs by taking out any very thin branches or ones with wayward growth - this may not be needed every year and usually just a few snips will do. Osmocote makes a plant food for rhododendrons, azaleas and camellias that blueberry plant love. Add at this Osmocote for acid loving plants to your containers every spring following the instructions for the correct amount on the label. Keep the soil moist and you'll be enjoying blueberry muffins, blueberry pancakes and beautiful blueberries soon. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
