Trees for shade

Hi Marianne, I took your Made for the Shade zoom class and still have questions. I’m looking for some golden or white tipped evergreens for pretty deep shade, under fir trees. Also maybe some japanese maples that would do well here. I have plenty of shrubs and ground covers to use here, but just need help with the taller bushes/ trees. I have attached pics showing the garden area. I’m going to send two more pics under the next two questions. Thanks!!

Hi Linda, your shade garden looks inviting and I love the idea of you adding gold or white tipped evergreens to the area. There are some gold tipped junipers and a golden yew that comes in both an upright form and a spreading form that would add year long color. The other evergreen shrubs with white or gold in the foliage that do well in dry shade include Fastia japonica and Aucuba especially the variety 'Gold Dust'. As for maples, the coral bark maple adds not just a golden leaf but lovely bark that really is a coral shade all year long  and looks especially nice in the winter. Sounds like you are creating a lovely paradise. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
