Trumpet Vine

What is the best and safest way to plant this vine and contain it? Also is it safe for animals?

Marianne's Response

Trumpet vine (Campus radicen) is toxic (not deadly poisonous) to people and animals both by ingesting and by skin contact with some people and animals. It has the nick name "cow itch plant" so keep it from livestock. It needs yearly pruning and should not be fertilized. It does need moist soil and at least 7 yo 8 hours of sunlight to bloom.  The best way to contain it is by annual pruning. This is a very ambitious vine once established so consider if you will have the time and energy to keep it under control. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti  His
