Trying to minimize spread

Would cutting off the bottom of plastic pots and putting in the ground with plants minimize the plants from spreading? Japanese silver grass, porcupine grass, lavender, Russian sage, honeysuckle will the pots damage the roots ?

Marianne's Response

Your idea of cutting the bottom of pots before planting invasive plants does work with many plants and has been used in many landscapes. The plants will need careful watering to get them established and they will suffer more during times of drought but it will keep them from spreading so quickly. Russian sage and lavender usually do not spread all over the garden so perhaps plant these two without the pots. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
