Vegetables

Osmocote® Flower & Vegetable Plant Food is of course super for Veggies. What about some of the other Osmocote products? Best and shortest way to put this…. are there any Osmocote fertilizers that are NOT recommended for vegetable gardening? I have some other Osmocote fertilizers available and want to make sure it is safe.

Great question. The good news is that Osmocote is safe to use on any vegetable. The different formulas deliver different ratios of nutrients and so plants with big leaves like more nitrogen, fruiting plants use up different micro nutrients than  leafy plants and then citrus and some other edibles have their own nutrient needs. You can use flower fertilizer on vegetable plants and the plants will take what they need. Just don't use more than the recommended amount on any plant. Keep in mind that some herbs do better in a lean soil that is low in nutrients.  Learning about the specific needs of your plants is part of the fun of gardening - but most plants really are not picky and respond well to all fertilizer formulas. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
