What about chard

I’ve heard that chard can be planted before most other vegetables but I don’t want to jump the gun. I live in the Lacey/Olympia area. When can I safely put the seeds in the ground?

The best time to plant seeds of cool season crops like kale, Swiss Chard and peas is determined not just by the weather but by your soil as well. If you garden in a raised bed or your soil drains freely (it does not form a ball in your hands if you squeeze it) then March is a good time to plant the seeds of cool season crops. Another guide to use is it is time to plant when you see daffodils in bloom. This year is a bit of an early spring so planting this first week of March would be fine in most gardens in your area. I see a healthy crop of chard in your future and Swiss Chard is my favorite vegetable so enjoy! Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
