Marianne's Response

What happened to my snowbound spirea?

I hope you didn’t receive this twice. I believe the first one failed so I am resending. I have had 3 snowbound spireas for about 15 years and they are a beautiful plant. Years ago you told me how to prune them because they grew to almost 6 ft tall. I’ve been pruning them about every 2-3 years after they’ve flowered (I do try to follow instructions) but something happened to one of them and not sure if it can be revived or if I should cry and try to get another one. Photo is attached.

Marianne's Response

If you are concerned about the brown branches in the center of the shrub do not worry. They may be late leafing out or were damaged by frost when they leafed out too soon but the shrub will be fine and fill in this summer so you won't even notice the winter damage. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
