Marianne's Response

What is my Fatsia doing?

I’ve had a Fatsia for 1 1/2 years now in a pot outside my back door in full shade and it is thriving. I love it! In fact, it is thriving so well that it looks like it may be flowering. Is that what these are? And, if so, it’s almost mid-October, how will they do? Thanks for your info.

Congratulations! Your Fatsia japonica is indeed getting ready to flower, It is a happy plant. No need to worry because even if the flowers are hit by frost the plant will still be fine. Looks like you have the variety of Fatsia called "Spider Web' with the fancy webbed markings on the leaves. Love this variety and I also have it in deep shade growing in a pot near my back door. Just don't give it too much water during the winter. You want to encourage it to slip into dormancy when the weather becomes cold. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti P.S. Send us a photo when the blooms appear.
