Those shiny green leaves look like the Acanthus plant, a handsome perennial that has been grown in gardens since Roman times. The leaf is actually the model for décor on top of Corinthian columns.. You can starve out the roots by cutting the foliage to the ground four or five times in one growing season or place cardboard and a heavy boulder on top of the plant in winter after it dies back. If it gets no sunlight the roots should weaken and die. Are you sure you don't want to learn to love it? It looks  happy and healthy and handsome. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
