Marianne's Response

What Kind of Palm is this? and poppies

Hi Marianne,

My daughter just moved and she was curious about what type of palms are in her backyard. Also, the poppies. Thank you for any info.

Those lovely poppies are Papaver rhoeas or the Shirley Poppy and the red variety of this poppy is the one that blooms in Flanders Field that is not used to honor Veterans. This type of poppy comes in many colors and bi-colors and reseeds itself around the garden. Deadhead or cut back the faded blooms before they go to seed if you don't want quite so many volunteering in your garden. I do not see a good image of a palm tree so perhaps that photo did not transfer. You are welcome to try again at sending a photo of the mystery palm. When it comes to trees a photo showing the entire tree will help to ID the plant rather than just a close up of the foliage.  Congrats to your daughter in her new garden and Keep Growing, Marianne Binetti
