What type of potting soil for palm trees?
I bought a Pygymy Date Palm tree. I’ve never had a palm before. What type of potting soil is best to use?
Should I let the soil dry out a bit before watering again?

Palms need perfect drainage so a light weight potting soil with perlite is best or any professional mix potting soil that says it is also good for seed starting. Palms hate to sit in drainage water, need partial shade, and average warmth indoors but mist the leaves to raise the humidity if you have your palm in a heated room. As for watering, do not let the soil dry out. Yellowing leaves is a sign of underwatering. Spotted leaves are a sign of too much water. Brown tips on the leaves means the humidity is too low so more misting. Palms do not like to be repotted so only move it to a new container when the plant is thoroughly rootbound. This means you should see roots poking from drainage holes. Water less in winter but still keep soil slightly moist. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
