When can I prune a Holly?
I live in western Connecticut and have two hollies that have grown huge due to lack of attention and need severe pruning. Will they survive if I do that this time of year, late June?

Yes, but don't wait too long. I have seen giant hollies reduced to mere stumps and still they sprout and renew themselves. I have also seen homes that offer "free holly for the holidays" signs and invite people to come prune their holly trees at Christmas time. A clever way to keep holly controlled.
