When to trim roses?

trim

I have received some larger roses to plant. They we’re not trimmed last winter and
are almost bare root. Should they be trimmed after planting?

No, I would prune them back before planting to make them easier to work on. Try not to remove more than one third of the canes and to shorten all the new growth by one or less. The roses may pout for a bit after the transplant but have plenty of time to adjust and do well before winter sets in. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
