Why Aren’t My Blueberries Producing Fruit?
I planted four blueberry seedlings of different varieties 5 or 6 years ago. They are now between 2 and 3 feet tall and produce a fair amount of blossoms. I put a net over them when they are in bloom to keep the birds and squirrels out. They get plenty of water and peat moss. My issue is that they just grow hardly any berries. What else do I need to do?

Do the blueberries get at least half a day of sunshine? Do you fertilize them in the spring? Do you have the right varieties for your area - that means if you live in a cold winter climate are there any bees out and about when the flowers form? The clue to this mystery is that you get a fair amount of blossoms. Perhaps you are lacking pollinating insects when the plants are in bloom. This spring try feeding with a fertilizer for acid-loving plants and when the shrubs are in flower give them a few shakes to help spread the pollen. With these tips and more mature plants you could be eating blueberry pie soon. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
