Marianne's Response

Asian lilies produce leaves but no buds for several reasons. Too much shade is the most common reason but an immature bulb that is not at least 3 years old is another. Another possibility: if it flowered last year and you picked the bloom with a lot of stem, and removed more than one-third of the foliage when you cut the stem then the lack of leaves in late summer could cause the bulb to take a year off and grow more leaves this year and could bloom the following year. If you know the plant is getting at least six hours of sun a day then just give the lily more time and it should flower next year. If you cut a lily bloom take as few leaves as possible.  I suspect you'll have that lily blooming by next summer. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
