How to move an Annabelle hydrangea
I need to move my Annabelle hydrangea. A little too much sun for her. She’s young, about 5. Do I prune her back first? She’s pretty spread out and might be difficult to spade around unless I cut her back some.

Yes, you can prune back your Annabelle hydrangea before you move it. Transplant now or wait until early spring. Try to keep as much soil as possible around the roots and water well the night before you dig up the shrub. You can try to choose one strong stem and prune your Annabelle into a tree form. I did this to my Pee Gee hydrangea years ago and it paid off handsomely.
Keep growing,
