Marianne's Response
Is it okay to use fire to kill off weeds in a perennial garden bed?
I have a perennial flower bed that is overgrown with weeds. Can I light it on fire to burn off the weeds without hurting the flowers? Nothing is up yet as it is too early in New York zone 5.

No, you should not set fire to your weedy perennial bed. The perennials have roots that may be harmed by the heat. Instead if you dig in and hand weed right after a rainstorm the soft soil should make it easier to weed. You might also try digging up the perennials you want to keep and setting them aside in pots. Then till or hoe the weeds out of the soil. Replant the perennials and be sure to mulch to keep out new weeds.
Keep growing,
