Marianne's Response
woltzen’s Question
I live on the south hill of Puyallup. I planted asparagus this spring in a new raised bed. They grew nicely all summer. How do I over winter them. They are still tall and green. I do have straw from a straw bale garden available to use. Do I fertilize or just cut down and mulch?

Wait until asparagus stems turn yellow from the frost. This means they are done making food to store in the roots for winter and you can cut them down to the ground during fall cleanup. You can also wait and do this is the spring. New shoots will sprout around March for you to harvest. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti .
